U.S. Chamber's U.S.-Turkey Business Council hosts

Roundtable with H.E. Lütfi Elvan,

Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkey

On Thursday, October 14, the U.S. Chamber's U.S.-Turkey Business Council in cooperation with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) hosted a Roundtable meeting with Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey, H.E. Lütfi Elvan along the sidelines of his visit to Washington for IMF/World Bank fall meetings.

The meeting convened senior representatives from 20 Council member companies at the U.S. Chamber's headquarters in Washington, DC and provided a great opportunity to directly engage with the Minister about macroeconomic developments in Turkey and the micro business climate, as well having 1-1 exchanges on the margins of the meeting. U.S.-Turkey Business Council Hosts a Virtual Briefing with U.S. Commercial Service in Turkey

On November 8, U.S.-Turkey Business Council hosted a briefing with U.S. Commercial Service in Turkey featuring Ms. Heather Byrnes, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs in Turkey and Regional Senior Commercial Officer Eurasia; Mr. Fred Aziz, Commercial Attache in Ankara; Mr. Eli Lovely, Commercial Officer in Istanbul; Mr. Andrew Glass, Commercial Officer in Ankara, and U.S. Department of Commerce Turkey desk officers. The meeting included introductions of the new officers in Turkey, briefing on their operations, 2022 sectoral priorities, and upcoming programs.

Turkish Ambassador to the United States Meets U.S. Chamber’s President and CEO and

U.S.-Turkey Business Council Advisory Board

Turkish Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Murat Mercan (center) joined the U.S. Chamber's rooftop reception on September 30 hosted by U.S. Chamber President and CEO Suzanne Clark (left). U.S. Chamber’s Senior Vice President for International Development and Middle East & Turkey Affairs Khush Choksy (left) engage the Ambassador in conversation. Ambassadors from five other nations and select company executives from the U.S. Chamber’s International Leadership Advisory Group attended the reception.

Separately, on Friday, October 22, the U.S. Chamber's U.S.-Turkey Business Council's Advisory Board met with Turkey's Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Murat Mercan at his residence for a working breakfast. During the meeting, Board Members discussed U.S.-Turkey relations, sectoral opportunities, and strategized with Ambassador Mercan and the Embassy staff on current developments for a positive agenda in bilateral relations in advance of the meeting between President Erdogan and President Biden on the sidelines of G20 in Rome. This agenda included the proposed sale of F-16s from the United States to Turkey, cooperation in the fields of aerospace, agriculture, defense, digital economy, healthcare, energy, logistics, manufacturing, and women in business.

TAI Completes production of 1st part of 5th-gen combat aircraft

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has produced the first part of its National Combat Aircraft (MMU), a long-awaited domestic defense industry project.

The aircraft will be comprised of nearly 20,000 parts and production is likely to be completed by the end of 2022.

Ford invests nearly $68M to make Turkey's first domestic gearbox

Ford Otosan has invested 58 million euros ($67.5 million) to create Turkey’s first domestically-developed gearbox, Dünya newspaper said in a report late Tuesday.

According to the article, the “Ecotorq” gearbox will push the ratio of domestically-developed parts used in heavy commercial vehicles Ford Otosan produces to 90%.
